Year 5/6 Girls Football

Finally, the date was set and the weather shone bright into the afternoon with no snow, frost, rain or hail, a recipe for a fantastic tournament! We firstly would like to say sorry for the delay, but unfortunately the both Southend SSP's cannot control the weather, and to avoid further disappointment the tournament was moved to the all weather pitches of 'Playfootball Southend'.

The Southend East Partnership was represented by seven teams consisting of two groups, with the Southend West Partnership putting four teams forward making one group. Group games consisted of two halves, each seven minutes long. Groups that had 3 teams played each other twice, and groups that had four teams played each other once with the East schools progressing to play the same placed team in the opposite East group.

After positions of teams were stated the borough playoff final and runner up commenced. For 3/4 positions, Thorpe Greenways played Heycroft and for the 1/2 position, Bournes Green faced Chalkwell Hall who cruised through their group in the beginning stages of the tournament.

After a nail biting final with both teams showing quality in depth, Bournes Green were the overall winners with a close score of 2-1. A fantastic effort from Chalkwell Hall though, who will go onto represent the West Partnership with Bournes Green from the East Partnership.

Well done to all the girls for showing that this sport isn't just for the boys! A big thank you to Playfootball Southend for the use of the facilities, teachers, parents/famaily, SSCo's, young leaders and our Competition Manager, Tracey Bennett. We look forward to seeing you next year. Photos from the day will be uploaded very shortly.

We are proud to say that Thorpe Greenways Juniors representing the Southend East School Sports Partnership, came 3rd in the competition – So a huge congratulations to them! Even conditions close to the Antarctic couldn’t stop the mighty Thorpe Greenways Juniors battling their way all the way through to the semi-finals where they unfortunately missed their finals play-off opportunity to St Thomas Primary. A very close final game was between St Thomas Primary and Kingswood, who after playing the full game had no sign of a winner. After just 25 seconds of golden goal extra time St Thomas scored an outstanding goal with Kingswood just missing out on the top spot and placing 2nd. Congratulations to St Thomas Primary, who after a long day claimed 1st in the tournament, not only that, but well done to all attendees. Results from the tournament were as follows: 1st St Thomas Primary 2nd Kingswood 3rd Thorpe Greenways 4th Kingsmoore 5th Mildmay 6th Woodville 7th Richard De Clare 7th Thaxted 9th Leigh North Street 10th Rayleigh 11th Lambourne 12th Stanway Fiveways
