As Southend is such a strong area in athletics, the SSCo team has organised both Julie Pratt and Larry Achike, 2 former international athletes to come down to the Gifted and Talented Academy to run some athletics masterclasses in their expertise.

Larry will be sharing his wisdom in Jumps after being a World Class triple jumper attending Olympic Games alongside Jonathon Edwards and several World Class competitions.

Julie will be sharing her junior World Championship experiences and giving her expertise in hurdles to the children attending to help them with their technique.

Both sessions are being run at Southend High School for Girls from 6 - 7.45pm and will consist of a 30 minute inspiration talk and demonstration from the athletes, followed by a masterclass for the athletes who attend to get tips on technique and ending with a photograph and question and answer session.

Larry will be delivering his jumps masterclass on Wednesday 24th February 2010 and Julie will be delivering her hurdles masterclass on Wednesday 3rd March 2010.

Anyone wanting to attend must call Selina Fox from the Southend SSP on 01702 292286 ext 193 or emai: selinafox@shoeburyness.southend.sch.uk to book a space. This has a charge of £6 per session or £10 for the both and is only open to students in school years 5 to 11.

Coaches and PE staff from the area are also welcome to attend.
